The opportunity
The Senior Lecturer and Year Leader is responsible for on-going scholarship, teaching, curriculum development, and related academic administration for a year group on the Fine Art course at Chelsea College of Arts.
The post-holder will have substantial subject area expertise – in art and/or event production, exhibition making, curatorial practice, art-related writing or art criticism – and versatility to teach both practice and writing across courses and year groups as required in response to Programme developments.
You will work collaboratively with the Art Programme Director, BA Fine Art Course Leader and other Year Leaders to develop professionally-purposed pedagogy and enhance the BA curriculum in innovative directions. The Year Leader is responsible for the operational administration and enhancement of the curriculum, and management of a dynamic staff team engaging a very large and diverse student body. A proven track record of student-centred curriculum design, HE management and quality assurance, developing inclusive pedagogies, and experience of leading staff teams delivering to substantial and complex student cohorts is essential.
You will have a postgraduate degree and substantial professional experience within the art world at international level, and be able to draw on your experience and networks to prepare students for ambitious graduate futures with culture sectors in the UK and globally.
About you
Your established practice in the contemporary art sector at international level will demonstrate your expertise in your specialist area. You will have a recognised track record of innovative practice in areas such as (but not limited to) art production, art criticism, exhibition-making, or event organisation. You will have an astute understanding of a broad range of international art practices, histories, contexts, and graduate destinations. Your knowledge of contemporary art and theory from non-European regions is desirable.
You will have a proven track record of teaching and management in the HE sector, and experience of working with substantial and culturally diverse cohorts. You will have a dynamic and engaging approach to working with others that promotes inclusivity, initiative and professionalism.
You will be well-organised, inspirational, have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and be a confident and engaging public speaker. You will have excellent professional networks within the UK and internationally that you can draw upon as needed. Your proven experience of complex project and schedule management, working within a team, and supporting the needs of others, individually and in large groups, is essential.
