Job description
The opportunity
The Design School is looking to recruit a Lecturer for the MA Graphic Branding and Identity course. The course explores graphic branding at the postgraduate level, with a focus on the intersections between creative practice and theoretical examination.
This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with a highly creative and innovative approach to graphic branding or visual brand identities. The position invites applications expressing interest in the relationship between graphic branding and storytelling exploration of cultural meaning-making as a way to push boundaries of design disciplinary knowledge.
As a lecturer, you will be responsible to the Course Leader for the delivery of graphic branding units across the course with a focus on graphic branding practices/processes and familiarity with emerging experimentation in this field. You will bring research and/or industry and teaching experience at the postgraduate level. You will manage and participate in the delivery of student-centred teaching and contribute to the development of the course curriculum, assessment, quality management and recruitment.
About you
We are looking for an individual with a qualification at the undergraduate or postgraduate level relevant to graphic design and branding. You will bring knowledge of delivering creative projects in a professional environment and experience in a range of specialist skills relevant to graphic branding and inclusive teaching. You will also have a comprehensive working knowledge of design research methodologies, brand semiotics and visual language as part of brand storytelling.
As an academic, previous teaching experience at the postgraduate level is essential in addition to the experience of professional practice in graphic design or equivalent. You will also be able to cite examples of the branding industry's future trajectory and engagement with culturally diverse contexts. You should also demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of graphic branding practice as it intersects with social justice, climate emergency and other global social, cultural, environmental, political and economic forces that are transforming the design discipline.
The successful candidate should possess effective interpersonal skills and be a student-centred teacher focused on promoting diversity and inclusivity, while demonstrating strong communication and organisational skills. We are looking for applicants who can work collaboratively with colleagues to develop the subject area and share expertise.
