The opportunity
BA Animation has 2 pathways: Character Animation and Experimental Animation. We are seeking a specialist in analogue and digital drawing and 2D animation, to teach across all years and all pathways but with a particular emphasis on the Character Animation Pathway. This extends to potentially cross course teaching and the BA Games Art course.
Your main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, assessment, student support and administration of practice-based workshops, seminars and lectures as part of the BA Animation or BA Games Art team teaching practice-based units potentially across all years aligned primarily but not limited to the Character Animation pathway. You will make a significant contribution to the quality of learning and support our students receive in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully.
You will provide course level subject-specialist expertise in creative practice and digital pedagogy within the Character Animation subject-specialist pathway or BA Game Arts teaching onsite.
Relevant knowledge, skills and software expertise includes, but is not limited to –
BA Animation & BA Games Art are looking for skills in:
- Toon Boom Harmony digital animation software
- Adobe Creative Suite
- Professional experience as a Character Designer
- Proficient in 2D traditional and digital pipelines for concept art production
- Strong foundational understanding and application of art theory
- Strong observational drawing practice
- Professional experience as concept artist for games/film/animation
Desirable
Experience with using 3D within the 2D concept pipeline
This is an hourly paid lecturer role – your schedule will be term time only and will vary throughout the year.
You will work closely with other academic staff, including pathway and course leaders.

About you
You will have experience teaching, ideally, in Higher Education. You will take a dynamic and innovative approach to supporting excellent teaching, pedagogy and inclusivity. You will have a good knowledge of animation. You will have an awareness of the global social, cultural, environmental, political and economic issues that are transforming moving image practices.
PG Cert teaching qualification is desirable or equivalent experience.
