The opportunity
The Design and Material Practices Programme within the Design School invites applications for the Course Leader BA (Hons) Textile Design role based at Chelsea College of Arts. You'll contribute to the senior management team and work collaboratively with the Programme Director, Dean and senior colleagues. You'll be an inspiring leader, confident in leading a large staff team and student cohort and implementing visionary change through the newly re-approved course structure. You'll have a broad range of expertise in Textile Design in two or more of the following: stitch, knit, weave, print, smart/e-textiles, responsible design, digital storytelling, mixed media, moving image, emerging technologies, or bio-design. You'll devise projects, negotiate live projects with external organisations, delivering dynamic briefings and teaching sessions to large and small groups of students, lead and support work-in-progress exhibitions, monitor student progress and assess work.
About you
You'll be an experienced Course Leader or Senior Lecturer with an undergraduate and postgraduate degree in Textile Design or associated subject. You'll have excellent organisational and communication skills combined with leadership and management experience. You'll be a leading practitioner and educator with an appetite for developing Textile Design education fit for future purpose and engaging staff and students in the course’s new journey. You'll maintain strong links with design practitioners from a wide range of professions, subjects and disciplines and build collaborative links with a range of institutions and employers. You'll bring innovative pedagogic directions to teaching, learning and assessment in Textile Design and implement diverse and inclusive approaches. As a champion of UAL’s principles of justice, you will strengthen the course’s ambitions in embedding these into the curriculum.
