The opportunity
University of the Arts London (UAL) is looking for a Financial Accountant to join the team on a full-time, fixed-term basis for 10 months.
As a Financial Accountant you will be responsible for the management, administration and reconciliation of key balance sheet control accounts, with a focus on payroll related balances, posting of monthly payroll journals. They will take an active role in following up and clearing outstanding transactions, liaising across teams and departments to ensure that the finance system is accurate and within agreed timescales. Additionally, the post-holder will play a key role at month end, quarter end and year end to ensure efficient provision of accurate financial information to stakeholders. The role will also support the University’s subsidiary companies and particularly UAL Artstemps Limited, a new trading subsidiary.
This role is diverse and will provide comprehensive support across the Accounting Services team to provide a high level of customer service to external and internal stakeholders. The post holder will also cover for other members within the team on a rotational basis.
About you
The following key deliverables are essential in this role:
- Qualified or working towards a CCAB recognised professional accounting qualification.*
- Knowledge of the UK direct and indirect taxation framework (desirable).
- Good working knowledge of financial reporting systems essential, (knowledge of ABW desirable)
- Very good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel
- Experience of working with large data sets.
- Experience of reconciling complex finance records, resolving queries as they arise
- Experience of working in a fast-moving financial environment, working to key milestones and delivering comprehensive results to tight deadlines.
- Communicates effectively orally and in writing and/or using visual media.
- Supervises and motivates individuals or a team effectively, setting clear objectives to manage performance.
- Plans, prioritises and manages resources effectively to achieve objectives on time.
- Works collaboratively in a team and where appropriate across or with different professional groups.
- Able to be customer lead or student focused when prioritising issues.
- Uses initiative or creativity to resolve problems.
