Salary: £38,359 to £47,109 per annum
Contract: Full time
Hours: Full time
Job description
The opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role as part of a brand-new mentoring service at a world leading university.
As a Specialist Mentor you will influence and shape the development of UAL’s Disability Service. You will deliver one-to-one specialist mentoring to students, facilitating independent learning and supporting them to overcome barriers to study.
You will proactively self-manage a caseload of students. This includes keeping accurate records, updating colleagues in-line with service procedures, following safeguarding and risk protocol and ensuring each student has access to appropriate support and interventions.
As part of your continued professional development, you will need to keep up to date with changes and developments in legislation, best practice, and procedures across the sector.
We have full-time positions available, but we also welcome applicants interested in term-time only and part-time work. Anyone interested in a part-time or term time role only please state this in your personal statement. You must be able to commit to a minimum of 17.5 hours per week.
About you
Experience of working with disabled people is desirable, but not essential.
You will need an understanding of safeguarding requirements, including with respect to vulnerable adults, and a willingness to undertake regular training in this area.
Experience of providing one-to-one support is essential, as is a clear understanding of the barriers students may encounter when studying at Further and Higher Education level.
Good working knowledge of the education provisions of the Equality Act (2010) and of General Data Protection Regulation is equally important.
