The opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Acting and Performance team at Wimbledon College of Arts (WCA), as a Specialist Technician (Learning & Teaching) – Voice and Movement.
WCA provides a rich, visionary and state-of-the-art environment where performers, designers and creative technologists can collaborate and explore performance in all its guises, whilst bringing to life extraordinary work.
As a member of the technical team, you’ll work closely with technical and academic staff to provide teaching, feedback, professional expertise, guidance and knowledge that relates to the practice and techniques of voice, speech and movement.
You’ll contribute to the planning, development and delivery of learning activities and their relevant technical set up, in accordance with Health and Safety and University policies.
Technicians are an integral part of the realisation of students’ work: their knowledge and experience of industry not only enables students to realise their most professional standard of work here at WCA, but it also prepares them for a smooth transition into their working life.
About you
You’ll require a relevant qualification in voice/speech and movement, and/or significant experience in a similar technical role, either in industry or education (ideally both).
You’ll have significant knowledge and understanding of all relevant Health and Safety legislation in relation to industry standards in acting and performance practice. It is essential that you are able to use a range of methods, tools, technologies and equipment to achieve a safe and acceptable standard of work.
You’ll need relevant experience in delivering technical workshops relating to acting and performance, as well as the ability to understand and explain technical/specialist terms used in the craft of acting.
Your professional competence, guidance, and advice will play an instrumental role in supporting students with the transition from education to industry. You’ll be proactive and innovative within the specialism, exploring new approaches and solutions to support the delivery of a smooth learning experience.
This role in based within the Acting and Performance course, however it operates as part of the wider WCA technical team. Experience of working within a team and communicating with people that have a varying technical understanding is essential.
